Bitcoinize All The Thingz

Except memes. Memes are the food that keeps us alive.

If you're not in the other slice, then you're doing it wrong.

GM! Ask not what Bitcoin can do for you, but what can you do for Bitcoin?

GM! How many sats will you stack today?

GM! Pardon for Snowden next!

BARRON’S INTERNAL MONOLOGUE:

“I always knew it might be an issue. The numbers were clear from the beginning—NASA’s upper limit for height caps at 6’4”. I’m 6’7”. Three inches. Just three inches. In the grand scheme of things, it’s nothing, right? The universe is vast beyond comprehension, distances measured in light-years, and yet… here I am, stuck on Earth because of three inches.

I could solve their trajectory calculations in my sleep. Orbital mechanics? Easy. I can conceptualize complex fluid dynamics in zero-g faster than most people can tie their shoes. But none of that matters when your femurs are too long to fit in a Starship command module. I’ve run the simulations; I’d cramp up, circulation would suffer, and emergency egress would be a nightmare.

It’s frustrating. I mean, why aren’t these things designed for outliers? They plan for redundancy in systems, triple-check tolerances, yet when it comes to the people who dream of space—of really understanding it—they stick to averages. It’s as if the boundary of space isn’t the Kármán line; it’s an arbitrary height limit on a bureaucratic spreadsheet.

Of course, now things are different. Father is president again. And while I’d rather do this without any special treatment, it’s ridiculous to let bureaucracy stand in the way of progress. I’ll insist that father speak with Elon to make adjustments. He’ll understand. He’s always talking about Mars, and let’s be honest—this is really just prudent planning. Lower gravity means people will stretch out; it’s a physiological inevitability. What happens when we get there and everyone’s 6’5” and they realize their precious little suits are obsolete? Someone needs to think ahead. Someone tall enough to see over the horizon.

I’ve thought about ways around it—designing my own suit, building a private mission, lobbying for changes in policy. But the reality is, the space industry isn’t kind to anomalies. It’s built on precision and predictability, and I… well, I’m an outlier in more ways than one.

Still, I can’t help but feel a pang of injustice. That something as trivial as my height stands between me and the cosmos. But that’s the beauty of being in my position now—if anyone can do something about it, it’s me. Father will listen. Elon will listen. This isn’t just about me; it’s about the future of tall people in space. https://v.nostr.build/YqColV1vbqVnJUQu.mp4

He's actually pissed that Musk's pet project got a shout out, but his Bitcoin Reserve did not.

SimpleX network: large groups and privacy-preserving content moderation

https://simplex.chat/blog/20250114-simplex-network-large-groups-privacy-preserving-content-moderation.html

Many people believe that it is impossible to moderate and prevent abuse in end-to-end encrypted conversations. This belief is incorrect — there is a way to prevent abuse and distribution of illegal content without any compromises to users' privacy and security of end-to-end encryption.

Anti-privacy lobbyists use this incorrect belief to advocate for scanning of private communications, which not only would fail to prevent abuse, but would make it worse — because our private data will become available to criminals.

So it's very important to understand how privacy preserving content moderation works, and educate the politicians who you voted for, and who is currently in the office, that we do not need to compromise privacy and security in any way to substantially reduce online crime and abuse.

🌎 Just returned to Luxembourg from Los Angeles. Amid my jetlagged haze, I reflect on the gut-wrenching destruction caused by the wildfires.

🔥 As I traveled the 405 to LAX, the apocalyptic scene of the smoke-filled LA skyline and plumes from the Palisades and Eaton fires was unforgettable. The fire truck on a nearly empty 405 was very eerie.

📉 The toll:

• 12,000+ structures destroyed, ~200,000 people evacuated.

• >30,000 individuals lost homes or livelihoods, with many businesses also reduced to ashes.

📊 The causes:

• In 2022, 87% of wildfires were human-caused (nifc.gov). This year appears no different.

• 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒: Likely caused by embers from the Lachman Fire, started by illegal fireworks on New Year’s Day.

• 𝐸𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒: Possibly sparked by a downed power line.

🚨 Exacerbating factors:

The main factors in both fires are extreme Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions. Yet there are other human factors, too.

• The 117M-gallon Santa Ynez Reservoir was empty for months due to sanitary conditions. Hydrants went dry after exhausting 3M gallons in the Palisades tanks. The last two winters (2022 and 2023) brought above-average rainfall. Its emptiness reflects a missed opportunity to prepare for fire season.

• Budget cuts likely hindered fire preparedness:

• Mayor Bass cut LA Fire’s budget by ~$20M.

• Gov. Newsom reduced CalFire’s funding by $100M.

• This may have impacted brush clearance inspections and mitigation efforts.

🔎 Responsibility:

The blame lies not with climate change or diversity programs as some on social media are saying. It lies with humans—criminal, negligent, and incompetent.

• Illegal fireworks are criminal acts.

• Power lines are built in vulnerable ways.

• Property owners neglected fire preparedness.

• Budget decisions resulted in reduced preparedness on public land and exacerbated response challenges.

💡 Lessons to learn:

• 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠: Bring campaigns like Smoky Bear back to the mainstream to educate the public on fire risks and prevention.

• 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑜𝑖𝑟 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡: Policy should prioritize keeping fire-related reservoirs full, even if offline as potable sources.

• 𝐼𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑑: Power lines should be improved and buried or otherwise made safe for all weather conditions.

• 𝐴𝑐𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦: Let investigators do their job. Those responsible for criminal acts should be prosecuted. Negligent officials must be replaced by competent civil servants.

💔 My heart goes out to all those affected. Let’s focus on recovery and ensure this disaster spurs meaningful action to prevent future tragedies.

👉 Share if you agree: It’s time to prioritize fire preparedness, awareness, and accountability.
