Climate Activists Indicted
Two climate activists who protested at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., have now been indicted by a federal grand jury. The charges brought by the US Attorney's Office include conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States and injury to an exhibit or property at the museum. Activists Timothy Martin and Joanna Smith self-surrendered and were taken into custody, facing imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.

Worldwide, museum security protocols have faced new challenges as activists increasingly target artwork. In recent months protesters have launched potatoes at famous artworks and superglued their hands to gallery walls to protest fossil fuels. An infamous incident involved Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers being doused in tomato soup at London's National Gallery sparking widespread headlines. Similar incidents have taken place in cities like Madrid, Berlin, Rome, and Sydney.
High-profile artworks by Vermeer, Goya, Monet, Van Gogh, Klimt, and Rubens have all been targets of climate protests extending across museums in Europe, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. In the case at the National Gallery of Art, the two climate activists smeared paint on the glass case and base containing Degas’s famous sculpture, Little Dancer Aged Fourteen.
Most of the artworks have not been harmed as they were protected by glass encasements. Degas’s sculpture reportedly suffered microscopic fractures which will require continued monitoring. These incidents raise concerns about the potential damage to less protected artworks by increasingly audacious activists, leading some museums to implement stricter barriers.
As these acts become more prevalent, recent cases serve as precedents for punishment. Once again so called Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his uneducated clowns rules that there must be surface water to consider a piece of property as a wetland. The doofuses only perceive with their eyes but not the whole connection to the wetlands. They have just unprotected 51% of America’s wetlands because they make the obvious choice to say that wetland(s) must have continuous surface water that connects to the actual waterways but doesn’t comprehend what is actually all connected to the wetlands! Did they even consider the watershed above the water table from where a lot of Americans get their potable water? They would rather side with so called property owners who think they can do whatever they see fit to their land even if they were to pollute the water table from where they and their neighbors get their drinking water from. We need to kick out these phony baloney religious zealot and unscientific judges of our court systems! All these judges are making unconscionable judgments that are hurting massive amounts of people for the tiny religious zealots and unfounded theories of science. It is pitiful that our court systems not to mention our Supreme Court has fallen down a path of indoctrination that usually sides for the Judeo-Christian & unscientific principles. Democracy is in peril and the only way we can stop this indoctrination and unfounded scientific judgments is that we all get educated and band together to vote for progressive values consistently. There shouldn’t be any wavering voters in the middle because they aren’t educated to make a progressive choice. We must talk amongst ourselves educating each other with founded factual information.
