Since my previous Bitcoin withdrawal transaction of 190k sats to Mr. Pika Chu was finally approved by Revolut, I thought I'd follow-up with them to express my concerns about their ability to validate the now required recipient information when withdrawing to an "unhosted wallet."
They sent me this official link that describes the legislation they follow:
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2022/860/regulation/5/made
If you read the relevant chapters 3 and 4, it's clear that service providers (Revolut) are not even expected to validate the information, how could they??
You might think that the FCA, who also has access to this information, will be able to rely on blockchain surveillance (BS) software to confirm the accuracy the data, but BS software are based on shaky heuristics that have led to the serious problem of innocent people being harassed by the State, as reported here:
If you find yourself in a such situation, you'll be considered guilty until you can prove your innocence. Good luck with that! As far as I'm concerned, I've stopped all my Bitcoin activity on Revolut.
yeah, Air France does the same too. I expect that they'll soon start charging us for it, if they don't already.
Ironically, Satoshi himself was the first Shitcoiner!
OMG, I'm having a second burger! 🤭

Women, lol!
Ideally, the clients should automatically handle this scenario and disconnect from unresponsive relays.
A very good article 🇩🇪 on the current situation in #Mali, and the Sahel region.
I'm just posting this because the last part of this veeeery long article coincidentally confirms one of my recent comments about the predominantly tribal organisations of African societies, the fragility of governments and their inability to assert their authority on their whole territories, primarily because of the inadequate borders drawn in Berlin in 1884. This is currently being exploited by rebel armies, for example, Burkina Faso has lost 40% of its territory to islamists rebels! Without the French, and now the Wagner army, the regime's days would be numbered. We've seen this before in former Zaire with Kabila, and there's a similar situation in Cameroon with Boko Haram in the North, and anglophone secessionists in the South, but there, the government receives massive military aid from the US, Israel, and France, though this could change if the recent Gabon scenario repeats itself in Cameroon (unlikely)...
Concerning Mali, a war lead by Nigeria and the ECOWAS to reinstate their now former "democratically elected" president would only have catastrophic consequences, as several neighbouring countries have announced their intention to join and fight on Mali's side. This would have the necessary ingredients for a WW scenario. Like in 1917, a "banal" incident could potentially lead to a WW. Also, a war will surely create the same conditions as after the destabilisation of Libya by the US/Obama and France/Sarkozy, the ensuing instability in the region, and the migrant crisis that plunged Europe into chaos.
No one wants another "Wir schaffen das!" episode.
Hey nostr, what do we think about starting decentralized wiki? With btc donation, etc.

"Wikipedia is an Information Warfare Tool," writes Dr. Mercola.
How can nostr address this problem?

It's easier to negotiate with one single faction, than with hundred tribes.
We bitcoiners understand this very well. 😅
Yes, in _general_, though there are many exceptions that confirm the rule...
Gab has already taken a stance and indicated that they will not comply. I don't think they have offices outside the US, so they are safe.

Frankly, he's very far from being an idiot.
He's a politician!
I understand the outcry, but the statement is actually correct, für several reasons:
The concepts of countries, in the African context, is a colonial invention, created by Europeans in Berlin in 1884.
We, Africans, think mostly in terms of tribes. Tribal affiliation trumps country affiliation. Blood is everything, especially because of the forced association of tribes that don't necessarily trust each other, and the lack of sophisticated and functioning trust frameworks.
In many places, the pendulum is swinging back towards a more tribal organisation of the people, but this is not in the interest of those in power: former colonies, and their local administrators.
Without France, most of these borders would not exist anymore, because they just don't make sense on the ground. It's similar to the former Yougoslavie, that fell apart and disintegrated into Bosnia, Croatia etc, after the death of strongman Tito.
This is surely why France always promotes dictators to run the fragile African countries...
Another thing, the Sahel is infested with rebel armies, the most famous being Boko Haram... most of these countries have lost control on some parts of their territories, and are relying on foreign expertise, armies to defend themselves.
Revolut now requires you to provide the name of the recipient when sending bitcoin to an unhosted wallet.
They sent an email yesterday to announce the new rules, and at the same time blocked all withdrawals from the app. You had to upgrade to the latest version (deployed today) before being allowed to withdraw your sats.
I've just cancelled my daily and weekly recurring orders, and withdrawn the remaining 190,000 sats to Mr. Pika Chu's wallet.
The order has been pending for half an hour, maybe a human agent needs to review and approve?
How do they validate the authenticity of the information? What if I had entered your name?
You can withdraw to a bitcoin address.
No grace period given. Damn!
I can't even withdraw, the app asks me to upgrade but I'm already on the latest version, according to Google play.
Where can I read more on DVMs to satisfy my curiosity, please?
Cameroonians are surely closely monitoring what's happening over there.
Ça me rappelle le début des années 1990s et lavement de la démocratie en Afrique francophone...
Che bella Venezia!
