I don’t expect the petition to work. But I do hope more people start taking the dangers more seriously. 🤷‍♂️

Sam Altman had a good point in his interview with Lex Fridman. You have to actually build the innovation and see what the problems actually are before trying to solve them. We can’t solve all our future problems before we know what they are.

Agree. And it def wants more of an “open” and transparent approach. There are adversarial risks to that, but generally would enable us all to move faster.

Pausing will never work.

Sometimes old men need to pause and catch their breath, and wear fully covering opaque clothing

AI projects need to be allowed, and transparent.

Maybe you shouldn’t always tell people what to do. Just an idea

Lol 🙂

Hope to see more open source models after appeals to the government like that!

They're just trying to use the state to hamstring OpenAI rather than outcompete them.

The future is a handful of normal people surrounded by hysterical crazy people & psychopaths…

Realistically, this is likely to be signalling to raise awareness. The only way to pause this is to spook the lawmakers. But their ban hammer is heavy & I’m not sure it makes sense to stop when other major powers act independently…

The letter isn’t calling for a ban.

It’s a pretty tight pitch.
