well, the people you follow anyway

you know in slavic languages the word "priatel" means "pleasant person"

slavs also don't mind their friends saying go fuck yourself so you gotta wonder what they mean by that then

maybe it's a real friend when they don't pander

you have allies, anyhow, that's the important thing

Im trying to figure out a way to fix this problem of the outbox model... would it be possible to have a seperate type of relay working along side the standard ones just to hold user and relay metadata.. That can be truely decentralized kinda like bitcoiin.. where each node holds the same data. on top of that a signal system which tells the person you are posting to or replying to has a new note on a relay the are not pulling notes from. Would this be possible?

maybe im just talking alot of shit :)

It's not a bad idea, but would introduce too much complication and is not really necessary.

i have already proposed this

classify kind user metadata, relay lists, mute lists, and outbox lists (among others) as a type of event that are widely accepted and commonly fetched to relays from wherever they can find them

if there was one place where a blockchain consistency would count, it's these types of events, these let everyone find each other

the rest of the protocol depends on it, and effective propagation of these events, and the failure thereof, is the root of most of the problems with the existing implementations

btw, #realy also already accepts this category of events from anyone

https://github.com/mleku/realy/blob/51d59d609e376a4356290138a4f1b1a576b54d8c/kind/kind.go#L118

you don't need to auth to read any event kind from this list from a realy these are events that matter to everyone, everywhere

correction, it allows reading them from anyone without auth, just to be clear

The problem is if you post a reply to me on that relay and I'm not pulling notes from it.. how will I know you replied.. that's the problem.

the problem is if you are an asshat you aren't followed by anyone i follow

but actually, you are, and i assure you, you can already auth to wss://mleku.realy.lol right now, probably your client already is, if you are using amethyst

i thought a lot about it and i figured that making my mute list (and it can be multiple users) the blocklist for a relay, and allowing everyone who a set of users are following, and all of the ones they are following, to write to the relay

that means all my friends friends could become my friend and message me

what i designed is a minimal frame for what is reasonable - most of the 11k people who are allowed to write to my relay, i probably wouldn't hate them, because they are all people who my follows follow

it's all automatic, and because it allows anyone in that list to post all their events, it seems to have quickly accumulated a lot of these kinds of events, automatically

We don't need less relays running and accepting everything.. that's going to be a problem in the future with spam. Better more people run relays and have a method of sending a message to join a new relay.

i'm not sure you understood the implications of what i just explained, and what wss://mleku.realy.lol is already doing

all of the 11k users who are allowed to post on it when they post these kinds of events they can be read by anyone

i don't think i'm being greedy restricting write access to those who i follow, follow, i thought it was a nice threshold, and it turns out to be quite a large number of people

#realy makes it really simple to spin up a personal relay, you literally just designate your npub in the configuration and it accepts all your follows and follows follows events, and it allows anyone to read that list of event kinds

yeah, to be clear, it doesn't accept these events from everyone

only that list

but if the clients broadcast these event kindfs for them it would solve that problem

You could make it act as a normal relay where everyone can post to alongside their normal relay list and then it will send a private message with a join new relay link to the recipticant. (Privacy might be a problem with this method) I'm just trying to figure out what is the easiest way...

Bitcoin has the lightning network running on top of it.. surely something can be the same for nostr.. then we can just do away with relay lists all together.
