Using hashtag feeds or any other kind of "global" feed without specifying decently restricted or curated relays explicitly is the worst idea in the world and everybody should have known this.
Reading your own replies and mentions from a free and open relay is less bad, but also wrong.

Where is better?
Some dedicated inbox relay that protects the target according to some heuristics and settings, I don't know, something that doesn't exist yet.
