I’m convinced that reading a bunch of spiritual literature can cause as much psychological damage as it can do good.

Imagine a person who became very convinced he has to live life in a certain way but constantly fails to do so. He can only say to himself so many times that he’s “on a journey” or that “failures are just lessons” before he snaps.

It’s no better than watching motivational TokToks when you’re down.

Some books enhance your vocabulary tho, but the overwhelming majority are garbage and a disgrace to the trees they're made of.

I hear you, insofar as any "sPiriTuAL" self-help style new age mumbo jumbo can be cobbled together with a minimum of scruples and/or brain cells.

On the other hand, try reading some Hegel, like "Phenomenology of Spirit" or "The Philosophy of History" and when it clicks, that shit is just a balm for the soul, and it's probably even better in the original German.

"The spirit is a bone"

Or read Kierkegaard, who thought Hegel was a joke, despite being influenced by dialectical movements.
