Jack's words are, as always, describing of a world worth aspiring to. But when it comes to permission and lack of boundaries, there is no system to be built in the absence of these. I come from a collectivist culture, like Africans and Asians and I can tell you that there is no mindset for building complex structures when one lives in constant exchange with the environment. All these countries have been colonised by the "civilized" powers. People lack initiative because they are differently wired. There is no space in between, them and reality. Permission though is a form of feedback that calls in for participation. I agree there are absurd aspects to our social norms that block the flow of states, but sky is not the limit. Earth is. Respect for boundaries is not some individualistic culture's invention it is necessary for creating space. Otherwise nothing can be built. Not inside, nor outside.
