So nostr:npub1hu3hdctm5nkzd8gslnyedfr5ddz3z547jqcl5j88g4fame2jd08qh6h8nh and I are both devouring the Mistborn saga by Brandon Sanderson (thank you nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a for the rec)…

I started reading first and just started “The Hero of Ages” and she’s on “The Well of Ascension.”

But the problem is I don’t want to finish… know what I mean? Once you’re invested in a truly great piece of fiction, invested in the characters, you don’t want it to end.

But it must end. Anything that cannot go on forever must stop. All good things must come to an end. Etc etc

Anyway, I guess what I’m really saying is I wish there was a Mistborn video game…

Don’t understand the appeal. The books are tightly structured is the best I can say about them.

What are some of your favorite series?

ASOIAF

Harry Potter

I even prefer Kingkiller Chronicle

Hmm, I only ever read Harry Potter out of those.

I was wondering if I'd be able to tell what was different in our tastes.

I dislike Sanderson’s prose. It’s very plain, which he says he goes for but it’s not my thing.

I find his work very influenced by gaming which I dislike. I’m not interested in magic systems.

He seems to me to make an effort to represent characters which appeal to an Obama era cultural sensibility. Discrimination based on silly things like eye color. For instance.

For these reason and more I dislike him

Ah, I can see that. I guess that is part of why I like his books; I'm very much a nerd and like the alternative systems of life he dreams up.

I don't really see the "Obama era cultural sensibility", but then again, I wasn't paying a lot of attention during his first term, and have never been very plugged in to cultures short term swings.
