They can if you run their software
Discussion
Bitcoin doesn’t belong to them
Core has a long tradition of following consensus changes, not forcing them
So we have to start from scratch and rebuild? I guess so
i’m just saying that practically speaking most people will just run whatever Core puts out, so they kind of control what most users have access to
Sure, a small minority will run knots or older versions of Core, but that’s the fringes
Look at reachable nodes bro. 5% are running the latest update. 7% are running knots in protest.
Economic nodes modify and review their code.
How is “nodes are so stupid they will just auto-update” an argument for your side?
7% is a minority
Only 5% Re running the latest version because the other 90% haven’t looked at their server in weeks or months and they probably don’t know what is going on or would care enough to mot update to the latest version.
I’m not arguing with you. I’m just telling you most current node runners either don’t know or care about this PR, or will forget about it in a few months and update their Umbrel or Start9, and future users will just download the latest version of Core.
There are only about 20k reachable listening nodes
So it’s not like there’s an army of npc node out there going to blindly run whatever the shitcoiner core devs tell them to.
Economic nodes modify their software and never run latest.
So this policy change is going to be ineffective and serves only to encourage competing implementations and to redirect funding. Which is great.
