What sort of deal could he possibly make? Not throwing shade here, just genuinely wondering what could Assange possibly have to bargain with, after so many years, that he couldn't or wouldn't have used long ago?

I think the deal will be: Assange pleads guilty, gets 5 years of jail, which he has already spent in the UK, and finally gets „deported“ to Australia.
I think the deal was ending this thing with a plea without having to go through the extradition bad press. I mean, the actual extradition not the judicial process towards the extradition.
My guess is pressure from White House mounted to make this issue go away.
