Wrong. Opioids as a class include natural or synthetic opioids. There are even endogenous opiods mostly produced by the human brain. It’s the reason the human body has opioid receptors.
Discussion
You have an endocannabinoid system that has endogenous receptor sites for different psychoactive THC compounds. That does not mean that BHO is natural.
If you’re a actually a doctor that is slightly concerning
Opiods are a class of drugs that act on opioid receptors. There are natural and synthetic opioid drugs, and even endogenous opiods that act on said receptors. Endogenous opiods like enkephalins and endorphins are even blocked by opioid antagonist drugs like naloxone.
If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
Naloxone is man made and I know because I run it by LCMS/MS. As well as buprenorphine and norbup. They’re all suboxone metabolites.
And… what does that have to do with anything? I said naloxone is an opioid receptor antagonist. Not that it was natural.
There’s no way you’re a physician but I appreciate the banter
I don’t appreciate the banter, or you telling me twice I’m not a physician when you’ve been factually wrong. Go fuck yourself, not in the nice way.
Opium opiate opioid are different words for a reason. If you think opiates and opioids are the same thing idk what to tell you.
Thanks doc!!!!
You’re arguing semantics in an area of medicine and pharmacology that is imperfect and not universally agreed upon. The class of drugs is opioid. Opiate is a less frequently used term that describes the naturally derived alkyloid from the poppy. In practice, we use synthetic, semisynthetic and natural to describe drugs within this class. Drugs like fentanyl are synthetic opiods, which as an anesthesiologist I use every day. Not sure what your background is, but it’s clearly not clinical medicine.
It’s imperfect but I’m factually wrong, right? The entire point was to say, opioids generally refer to opiate based compounds synthesized in a lab. Opium and opioids are different and you know that. That was the original point to the troll who initially commented. I don’t care what you think about my background because similarly to “you” I was a pre med student and I have a significant background in toxicology. If you can’t handle my heat you have to leave my kitchen because I am COOKING young man
Also I agree with nostr:npub1csamkk8zu67zl9z4wkp90a462v53q775aqn5q6xzjdkxnkvcpd7srtz4x9 - the opioid epidemic created by the medical and pharmaceutical industries is certainly one of the worst plagues humanity has ever brought on itself. Highly recommend Dreamland by Sam Quinones
