Cigars don’t age like wine. Purchase your cigar as close to when you plan on smoking it as possible. Purchase from a cigar shop with a well maintained walk-in humidor that keeps their cigars properly humidified or you’ll be smoking shitty paper.

Afternoon Dave. When my son was born a friend of mine, from Texas, bought me my first (and last) Cuban cigar. I smoked it with large amounts of Brandy! I am not a smoker and will not do it again but it was an experience!

Padron 50th is a great choice, make sure it's the maduro. It's not too strong but it's much more flavorful than the natural. Can't go wrong with a 1926 natural/maduro or 1964 maduro (only maduro for 64's). There is no bad padron.
Side note, if you're thinking of getting a cuban... don't.

First, dont inhale a cigar. Second, you will want to consider the notes you want out of the cigar (eg, coffee, chocolate, cedar, nutty, oak, etc). Third, will you be pairing this with a drink? Maybe a cappuccino or an old fashioned.

One more tip, the only things I buy at tobacco stores are the two-way humidity packs like Boveda 72%. If you’re only buying one cigar, go to a cigar bar if you can. Their humidors and selection are almost always better. You can buy just one and put it in a freezer ziplock bag with one of the 60-gram humidity packs to keep it perfect for 1-3 months. Cigarcountry.com has great selection and great prices in case you get addicted. Amazon for boveda packs.
