how dead is start9 os? there hasn't been a release in over a year. the most recent commits to the project itself appear to be readme changes. I love my start9 and really hope there is just a bunch of work being done behind the scenes. #start9 #homeserver #selfhosting

I have 2 releases pending for the community registry. The main issue is the devs are focusing on the clearnet release which has been pending for a while, it's due to go into public beta testing any day now, I assume there was a shit load of technical issues to work through. They are also releasing a router so they're doing the hard stuff.
How does the clearnet release work? Do you know if it requires Cloudflare?
No idea, we can all just wait until the beta release is out. Betting q1 we'll get it.
I've been waiting for it for a long time, but I'm able to host Start9 on the clear with the Cloudflare trunnel service. It taught me how to use Cloudflare Zero Trust, but a reverse TOR proxy would work better. BTCpayServer would work better.
ahh so new hardware is taking focus. that's understandable. it's a bummer it's taking focus away from start9 os but I get it. thanks for the update!
How would you compare it to Umbrel?
I had bad experiences with umbrel years ago. I haven't used it since then. so I'm not sure. I hear a lot of people seem to enjoy umbrel though.
