Might not be a good thing all the time, but is a right I believe.
I'd argue that there is no freedom of speech.
There will always be consequences for your words. Therfore, is freedom of speech, even free?
What is free?
Freedom to pay for whatever you want to speak. The price differs by local and goes up to life or freedom of movement

My parents used to say “your freedom ends where another person’s nose begins”. It took me ages to figure it out. Freedom only works with self restraint.
I think you should be able to say what you want. I find that some people also think you should be free from societal judgement for what you say too. I don't believe that myself.
I like freedom of speech, in that it makes it easier to know who to associate with, and who to avoid. Without it people are likely to censor themselves, and you don't know their true feelings.

Of course it’s a good thing. The concept relates to government and citizens though. Has nothing to do with social consequences of your speech.
If the state wants to take it away, it's probably a good thing.
I for one would rather anyone be able to speak their thoughts freely so that I might know what they truly think. If people feel like they can’t speak their true thoughts that increases the deception levels. If someone can speak their true thoughts, I can decide whether or not I want to associate with them and their views. And what is the alternative to free speech? The problem comes when we start deciding who gets to decide , no?
