I donโ€™t know exactly know what Discord is because I donโ€™t use it, but it seems to be a hotbed for young anarchists, chaos planning, and murder coordination?

Whatโ€™s in the water there?

I believe Discord began as a communication channel for gamers.

It's spread out since then to be a source of support, or a tool for support groups and others. But as far as I know, it is not really very secure.

And I just don't particularly like the user interface. (Personal reflections.)

How are you doing, dear?๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ’–

Iโ€™m doing quite well. I hope you are as well. My small universe has never been better. ๐Ÿซ‚

Gamers use discord a lot

SSRI's

Damn.. itโ€™s everywhere. Maybe airbourne.

It's a gaming chat platform. Also heavily used by crypto degenerates.

Bit of a cesspool then

Like most tools, I'm sure it depends on how you use it, but that is the platform's primary use case it seems like.

I think the people make the place. I look at BlueSky and that went south real fast. ๐Ÿ˜„

Entirely fair point. ๐Ÿ˜…

It's like a small forum today and each forum is a server.

It has or had 150 million monthly active users so

It's a chat & voice comms platform. Started as gaming focused but it's everywhere now. It's replaced a lot of old Internet forums. The chamber of commerce and downtown business association in my city even use it for discussions & planning.

I hate it's design, but have to use it ๐Ÿ˜“

Heard of it. Never used it๐Ÿคท.

This is a classic case of online impression vs the real world. Thereโ€™s insanely many different discord servers and most of them are used legitimately by normal human beings, especially gamers. Then thereโ€™s a small minority using it for illegal, or just straight up stupid things, which does get media attention. Donโ€™t lump them all together.

I appreciate that because I don't really know, and that's why I asked.

Always good to ask questions ๐Ÿค™

Think nostr relay chat but centralized. Discord basically gave everyone free chatrooms and voice chat rooms for their own communities. Since it was better than teamspeak and also didn't require you to get your own paid server it became very popular. We have a discord server for our AI software for example where our users can hang out with each other, discuss local AI models, discuss the software and interrate on development that sort of thing.

The culture in a server depends immensely on what who made it / moderates it. So theres no specific thing there as theres not really a central big server everyone has in common.

Discord has been used successfuly for illegal actions, because it had encryption and it was not attracting attention since gamers used it, and that is why it had some name. It is hyped though.

Really โ“๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ถ

aptly named at least

Thanks for asking because I didn't know either.
