I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but sometimes I just gotta vent.

It's painful to see prominent bitcoiners support ID's, as I'm philosophically opposed to identification.

Through all human history man has sought to have one group take from another group. As a necessary prerequisite to this you must label the groups you want to divide. All powerful governments have utilized this tool to control their herd and subjugate others outside of the group, from the Romans to the Germans to the Americans.

If ID's exist and must be presented(regardless of where the ID is stored) you have no privacy, and privacy is necessary for a healthy society.

The power of bitcoin and nostr to prove ownership of speech and other property by revealing a hash is by design antithetical to the purpose of identification and allows the user to reveal themselves selectively.
