This is why the culture of #Bitcoin needs to stay strong. And EVERYONE who truly believes in bitcoin needs to run a node and get at least one miner. (Or setup a mining farm too, that would be good)

If the people who are passionate about Bitcoin and its promise can’t put their economic weight to defend it, the future might not be as bright as we hope.

Our greatest advantage is that no one will care as much as we do. 🔥✊🏻 nostr:note162yz8v8qnjwfkyz4jas5kdphwqak8csdykwrxut5qne73345l4nqjnzere

Watch pool dominance over the coming days veeeerrrry carefully

Wait until December 👀

Was actually just looking yesterday, my s9 has finally seen end of life lol. Any decent platforms for used/discount newer miners?

Also what are the best software miners on Linux for Nvidia? Just to mine, not win.

Nicehash is great. Mines whatever, pays out in bitcoin, withdraw with lightning (fee for me is usually less than 10 sats). Only cpu mining is really worth it, but my cpu has been doing 8K sats a day recently lol

Oh and no kyc

Ah. Thanks. I would like to calculate hashes verifying transactions for my own Bitcoin node. Already running the node on start 9. I would like to use Nvidia graphics card I have when not using for something else. What miner can I instal to calculate hashes on a Nvidia card?

You don't mine Bitcoin with GPUs. You need an ASIC

The algo doesn’t exist to mine on gpu anymore?

Meant to post this here

No its just going to be extremely electricity inefficient. Its like mining with a CPU on a chain that GPU mining is normalized (actually its way worse than that)

Thanks. Mining for heater. So efficiency doesn’t matter. Can you share some links to some open source software that still work for mining both on cpu and gpu?

Payout in Bitcoin but not mining Bitcoin which is the point of the post

Does cgminer still work ok?

No its just going to be extremely electricity inefficient. Its like mining with a CPU on a chain that GPU mining is normalized (actually its way worse than that)

Have heard great things about Kaboom Racks

Vouch. Never gotten any bad equipment from them. Except for when I explicitly ask them to send me broken equipment. In that case it’s bad. Which is still a net good.

Kaboomracks on Telegram if in US

I do agree with you, but miners are expensive. I could scrape together an s9 or two, but then I would have to join a large pool and they’re the problem right? We need more decentralised mining pools

I don’t know

I just discovered properties in rural Virginia and West Virginia that have free natural gas! The land has pockets of gas that the local gas company taps and gives you yours for free. Was thinking about buying a homestead out there and mining corn with free gas

Boom. We did it Nostr! 😂

Going to cost an arm and a leg to run a miner with residential rate. Might as well buy bitcoin with it

Run it seasonally and its profitable anytime you would use electric heating.

when fees are high, you want to be mining for it and not paying for it. check out rigly.io you don't necessarily need to own the miners. But you can participate on the both sides of the trade depending on the market, as long as there are miners wanting stable income and buyers able to stomach the volatility.

Millions of nodes would be a site to behold.

this is so gatekeepy and tone deaf.

Bitcoin is for everyone. you don't have to mine it to be a "true" believer. Mining is out of reach for the lay person. Stay humble and stack, friends. Run a node if you want/can.

So Bitcoin only works if people put unnatural amounts of effort into it? Communism would work too, if everyone were an angel

Freedom is not free

Very very true.

That’s a great strawman that neither distinguishes why those or different, or that what I am proposing is directly in line with the incentives of the system, which is why it *does* work.

There was never a world where Bitcoin works without people. To the contrary, it works *because* it aligns the incentives of the system with the incentives of the individual. Where communism does the exact opposite, it puts them perfectly in contradiction to each other.

The number of people who don’t seem to realize that the “or setup a mining farm” thing was tongue-in-cheek is surprising. 🤣🤣

Needs emoji I guess, lol

Just not very practical for the common person to invest in and run an asic.

S9s are great space heaters and you can get them for like $50 or something.

It doesn’t have to be absurd, because just breaking into it and doing the smallest version can be a huge open door to doing something more meaningful later.

I think you’d be surprised how fun and easy it can be. That’s why I encourage people.

Guy, here's a link to our preliminary setup doc for the HeatMine.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Iw14RxWlJe-3yT_486sJwOVv7x9lJkKA/view?usp=drivesdk

We are getting ready to ship some to nostr:npub1lrjgpa9m2dl6esdah5pq7m005ymwh4glq4aet76q2zlz2f83esfsa2zvrj for him offer as an option. It really is the missing link. It pauses and resumes the miner's hashing without having to kill power or cause the miner to auto tune again.

Dude that’s awesome! Are you able to make it work with Whatsminers?

I ask because I want to make one with a tiny screen that literally operates like a thermostat, connected through Ethernet to control the temperature in the house with the miner in the attic.

I’d happily work with you guys to help make this a reality if you are interested. Would save me tons of work to utilize something that’s already a major part of the way there!

Absolutely. We are willing to develop a whatsminers functionality. Just need one to develop with.

Let's take all the end of run miners and put them to use in our houses for heat. Think of the diverse strong hashing network we would have.

Before the black rocks of the world take over all mining, we plebs need to get in the game. We can't compete against the 2-3cents/kwh rates the big dogs can get. So we have to take advantage of the "heat reuse".

Guy. Check DM

I don't think this will work in the #UK due to the unit cost of electricity. It's currently 27.35p kWh, which is about $0.35c

That is not sustainable for anyone.

And it's much cheaper to heat your house with gas than electricity.

I'd love to mine #bitcoin but it's just not feasible. Unless someone can show me how it is possible.

Excellent note, bro Guy, thank you for keeping us always looking on the positive, bright side of Bitcoin; if there's a will, there's a way!!!
