The answers are very interesting.

The one that no one answered yet, which to me is absolutely fundamental, is values.

Experience and reflection without values leads to psychopathy.

If you don’t have values AND taste to guide you towards a higher self (which itself comes from culture) then you’re still aimless.

Wisdom comes in many forms

where do values come from

All life is a search for value. What you value changes over time

I think value in this context is different

I disagree. Maybe you value “equality”. It’s something you pursue in life

Now I understand your perspective. Mine is about my actions aligning with my values. Finding them may or may not happen.

I’d say largely ones’ family and upbringing

Plus human nature or not ?! Sure there is a spectrum, but in principle…

Upbringing is also experience. Values, or preferences, are something that is also learned through experience. Even genes are experiential, but on a different time scale.

I would say that a wise person has learned to align their internal preferences and values, with a value set of their niche socioeconomic environment.

Figuring thatbout is difficult, thus takes time, and a lot of life experience. It is not a coincident that old people are seen usually as wiser than young ones.

True and wise. All life is a search for value. I think with wisdom, your notion of “what is value” changes

I’d argue that values are a side effect of gaining wisdom. Or better, using wisdom.

You can have “values” that are complete garbage. You can “value” stuff above relationships, your worth based on others thinking of you, etc.

Wisdom helps you determine what is good and what is not. Without wisdom, values are unjust.

Sounds like a description of art. Imho life is art..

Wisdom emerges as a by product of struggling to achieve something deeply meaningful and challenging.

Values are on intention

Hi!

I noticed that Shipyard doesn’t seem to be working properly. I have a few scheduled and signed posts, but they haven’t been published.

Could you please check what’s going on?

Oh I bet the service didn’t restart properly; my hosting company restarted it recently. I’ll need to have a look; thanks for the heads up!

Thank you for the support! The app is excellent and has been very helpful in my daily routine. Congratulations on your great work!

The answer is simple, profound, and unfathomable. And it’s laid clear in the Proverbs.
