If you want the full camera functionality, then you currently need to use Pixel Camera. If you don't have a non-folding Pro model then you won't have the best cameras for that gen. 9th gen significantly upgraded too.
Discussion
that camera comparison is just "someones" opinion (experts lol).
it comes down to personal preference.
What you and the experts fail to mention is the context and conditions.
my SO has the S24 Ultra, I have the Pixel 8 Pro.
the Pixel 8Pro takes way better sunsets.
The Samsung takes way better EVERYTHING ELSE.
FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE BEATS LISTENING TO "EXPERTS"
The different experiences are interesting. I've been shooting for 25 years on interchangable lens cameras, and the 8 pro is the first phone that made me comfortable with leaving my real camera at home.
my criticism may have been exaggerated
I had a bad day and didnt eat dinner till late or do any mind altering substances.
all good. pixel 8 pro shines with sunsets, that I will stand by.
Samsung seemed to do " photographer nightmare" (middle of day)., as well as night time photos and videos.
havent touched my DSLR in about 7 years, but i am thinking it will do better night photos than both! LOL!!
