Checking again - does anyone know of a portable device with a 3.5mm jack, wifi, and a web browser, but no built-in cameras, microphones, or speakers (because they can be used as microphones)? #asknostr
Even better if it can be bought in stores

Could probably build something with a raspberry pi, display screen, and a battery, 3d print a case...
That would be pointless, the idea is to have an anonymity set
I understand the desire for anonymity. What about the raspberry pi solution doesn't provide that? Because of how you purchase it?
Building it myself or being the only one with a device like that would connect it to me. No microphone or camera would be needed for the authorities to identify the owner of the device because there's no one else with that device. It would need to be mass produced to have a chance at an anonymity set
Lots of makers buy raspberry pis with screens. You can buy those online, or maybe even from a store like Microcenter with cash or gift card. Some stores might take sats.
Pretty sure the government doesn't know what I 3d print on my printer...
It being unique to you doesn't mean it harms anonymity unless you are posting it publicly under your name... I guess the other option is to post it publicly under a psudeonym so other people can build it for themselves.
I think the hardest thing about this device would be input controls for browsing the web... That would be tough. Touch screen might help.
I doubt you are going to find a device like the one you are searching for in a big box store because its precisely the thing that would take a lot of support, would probably advertise to you, and would probably have trackers and analytics like crazy to capture location, browsing history, etc. The incentives aren't there for a company to build a privacy-minded device like this.
You're not thinking this through. For example, you're not accepting that creating a device and then suggesting other people should build it is far less anonymous than buying a mass produced device and recommending other people should buy it. You're pretending there's no point to trying to gain an anonymity set because everything is full of trackers anyway, yet you also pretend you can safely bet the authorities don't know what you print on your 3D printer.
You're not showing me a raspberry pi with a screen that I can buy to use it for web browsing, without it needing further DIY configuration that helps make it traceable
Best of luck, hope you find the device you are looking for and prove me wrong.
I hope so too.
To be fair, if you replaced your phone with a raspberry pi build and then had a conversation with someone who doesn't bring their phone everywhere, it would at least be really useful for stopping the conversations from being listened to.
NitroKey sells devices that can be ordered sans sensors... i can't remember all the combinations of items that can be removed, but the "customization" is pricey... it's a good starting point though. i would use it as a starting reference point and just search for "alternative to" nitrokey, etc...
Probably no dice. I doubt they remove the speakers, and I doubt overpriced customized devices will ever create an anonymity set. The right solution would probably come from a category of device that doesn't need sound or cameras, like an e reader or a PDA
can't you just get some epoxy and brick the speaker? or solder it out?
That's even further from a mass produced thing as far as anonymity set
Useful for 2
people to replace their phones with if they want to avoid having conversations listened in on, but Digit isn't here so I'm on my own.
Post split because my phone seems to have malware that randomly makes the keyboard disappear and jumble.social's UI refitting itself to the new window size moved the button that sends the post to the next position I was typing at
i don't understand you. you're asking how to blend in but increase anonymity? would not buying a retail TracFone and solidifying the speaker and microphone in epoxy acheive this?
Instead of using voice clips and camera images to identify me they'd identify me by the fact that I'm the one with a TracFone they can't get voice clips or camera images from
Thank you for trying to offer something though since I keep spamming this question 🤙
here ya go! Supernote A5 X2 Manta ... is sim card a deal breaker for 'ya?
Thank you but it's similar to something else I found this morning, the dealbreaker is the plastic. I should have realized this would be a problem when I first started searching
Keep Searching! When you find it, can you DM me please?
ps- i'm not your handler or nuthin'. just looking for the same tech.
this guy reviews it... half-way down the page... no speakers (and other hardware) on the CONS side... i didn't see 3.5" jack listed though... Ya know they can hear you breath through your headset! 😉. Breathing pattern algorithms are doxxing people everywhere! 😁 There is a certain point where conjecture is overtaken by credulity! Just BREATHE! it's going to be OK... until it isn't... until it is. Any level of attack is possible with enough fiat. Seek better defenses?

Identifying someone by breathing patterns picked up through their headphones would be much harder than identifying them through audio of their voice or images of their face
And having the headphones unplugged most of the time means it's more possible to find 2 people having a conversation where neither of them has a device on them monitoring the audio
