Might not be a bad idea. I think I want to avoid biasing against languages, though. If we’re auto-translating from one language, we should auto-translate from all of them. It should also be opt-in.

Yep. If I can’t read something I either manually click in and click translate which is just effort, or skip it (basically self-filter). I’d rather see them translated or not at all if I just don’t know that language.
But I like the global connection translators give us.
Amethyst does this (auto translations) but I believe they use google translations so the quality is poor. DeepL + auto translate would be 🔥
Yeah, Amethyst downloads language packs from Google and translates offline. I believe it’s also opt-out and assumes that you understand the languages that your keyboards are in (on top of app and system level preferred languages), which I believe is a bit overly aggressive, an incorrect assumption, and appears to have made some users upset.
I think we can use the current translation providers in Damus to auto-translate live when the setting is enabled.
Totally agree! Ended up shutting it off in Amethyst. I like this path and thanks for all your work on this.
