it’s under appreciated what a beautiful user experience it is logging into a webapp simply with a keypair

- no more forgetting usernames and passwords

- no more give me egregious unnecessary, identifiable information like birthdates etc

- no more captchas

- no more password managers

seamless ux.

- no more second factor - e.g. email - to restore an account

- no easy option to be anonymous with multiple accounts unless having a bunch of keypairs

- no getting rid of captchas because that is unrelated to the method of authentication

- no password managers but key managers and/or bunkers

You could easily do away with captchas couldnt you?!

you either have the key or you don’t.

Why would you still need them?

because you want to protect content against non-human visitors. That is the primary use of captchas.

Had a moment of weakness the other day and tried to create a FB account because many of the public agencies and charity orgs helping with disaster relief in NC post updates there exclusively, and FB heavily restricts what you can see without an account - even when it's your tax dollars and donations making their actions possible.

Entering a fake name, fake DOB, and refusing to divulge a mobile phone number must have triggered some algo that refused to let me create an account.

Thank God for Nostr!

a big digital prison. Im glad to algo supported you in your moment of weakness 😂👌

“No more forgetting usernames and passwords”

That doesn’t really seem like an advantage for Nostr to me. I mean, if you forget your nsec, there’s nothing you can do to restore access to your Nostr identity.

At least with centralized systems, you can reset your password. But of course centralized systems also come with great disadvantages such as they function like a dictatorship where you can be banned.

[insert spiderman responsibility meme]

jokes aside, I hear your point. if people prefer the trade-offs of dictatorships then they can choose that I guess.

This is the future!!

But going to take a while to get the ux right..

How do I add this to my websites to test? And do I need an app to sign in?
