I'm having a real hard time feeling bullish right now because the fuckin' world is so much worse right now, generally, than it was two years ago. I feel sad. Maybe I'm depressed after a few really excellent days in El Salvador around really amazing people and my family, and now I'm back in my office, but in both the geo political and macro individuals (personal friends and pod-o-sphere) that I've come to trust over the last 8 years has anything good to say right now.

Need to focus on freedom tech, but really not looking forward to using it.

I saw a stat somewhere several years ago that claimed about 50% of humans live under authoritarian regimes. And that was before the other half decided to head in the same direction (~2019 it ramped way up, but was trending that way regardless).

Basically, the west decided it wasn't best and stopped pursuing ideals of freedom and prosperity. Ayn Rand was the last potent defender I can think off. I can't tell you who her equals are today. We're philosophically impotent.

Most of the biggest examples I know of are quite weak in comparison. I may have blind spots, of course. I don't know everything. But it's quite telling that the person who fired me up about freedom, prosperity, western ideals, capitalism, reason, intellectualism, and philosophy died 43 years ago (before I was born) before all this technology existed. I also think you're right though. People obviously have decayed in general (as I'd expect having such weak intellectuals). It's compounding decay.

In some ways, all of this technology has made it harder for people to stand out. There's just so much garbage to sift through that the good voices stay rather small or invisible. Maybe this is a multifaceted issue as they usually are.

I think it's more nuanced than this. I read in the sovereign individual that the boomer generation had high rates of illiteracy. I think there was a stat cited in that book claiming that something like 30% of the population was considered to be incompetent.

Do you have evidence to support this? Because last I checked literacy and readership is at an all time high relative to human history. Not saying that you are wrong but I think that humans tends to overestimate how bad things are.

I'm having a cigar and chilling. I don't tell people they should smoke, but I think it's wise to have an equivalent 'thing' you can do when you feel this way. I'm feeling it too, but it's mostly because everyone else is. It's a bad vibe, like something really bad is looming. I was preparing for that all throughout the good vibes though. These systems we live within are always bad, and the times that appear good are usually the most dangerous because we relax and forget that future hard times are the price we will pay. It's all one big fucking mortgage and everyone is putting off repayment.

I don't know. Maybe this cigar has more than tobacco in it 😂

Have you read the book? I discovered its existence after learning a lot about analytic idealism, so I checked it on Wikipedia and the first principle of the book was stated as "The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.".

I concluded that something might be going on here and idealism should probably be taken seriously as a world view, especially when I also encountered the following quote by Emerson: "What is popularly called Transcendentalism among us, is Idealism; Idealism as it appears in 1842".

So yeah all of this to ask whether "The Kybalion" is any good

Is it real? Yes, as evidenced by the placebo effect.

The actual book is interesting and legitimate, but it's difficult comprehend and apply it with just the Kabalyion.
