Reconnected with an old friend.

Ask him if he’s dating anyone, he tells me it’s hard when you live at home with your parents.

This man is 36 years old.

How do people end up there? I can’t imagine.

In his case addiction

Addiction isn't a cause. At least it's not that simple.

Helping people is really hard.

They can't be helped if they don't help themselves.

But if he was European/Asian it's completely normal to still live with parents and more likely grandparents also.

That's not a man

fixed that for ya

💯 I was thinking the same thing.

Can’t really judge him based on this info - no idea what he went through 🤷‍♂️

He’s from a good normal family, but hes been addicted to drugs and alcohol for twenty years now.

Sad. Has anyone tried to help him?

Yes. Many interventions, rehab visits, 12 step programs etc… nothing seems to stick.

He needs to help himself

Many such cases. I wish I could have helped my sister and innumerable friends and thank God every day that I accidentally made a few random decisions and didn’t end up like them.

parents r enabling & tuff luv needed/ it's a hard choice but helped me to overcome my addiction.....t-y mom! "luv ya but not what u do & can't support"

Is he on nostr?

Depressing

More and more of those types in the making as well

Symptom of the system in a sense

My friend is 43. Never moved out. Says he has to take care of mom. Don't want to put her in a home. I'm just tick tick doc

What fiat have done

A lot of places in the world, it's normal to live with your parents at this age. Read in the comments that he is an addict, which is sad to hear. A lot about the fiat standard leads to these types of things. Have sympathy for others. Hope he finds his way. I love my parents. My goal is to buy a big plot of land to build a home for me and one for them, so they can be my neighbors.

I have friends in Europe that are living with their parents and they are almost 40. They also don’t have girlfriends of course. One of them wears a suit when he goes out to give the impression that he is working or someone important. It’s depressing…

dude isn't even on Nostr.

Ouch

Maybe contentment and comfort have crept in for so long he is paralyzed to make a change. It's not bad enough for him to do anything about it, so he just goes with the status quo.

Not making excuses for him, just acknowledging that the fiat system is remarkably good at robbing people of their agency and convincing them that it's not their fault
