#asknostr

Is it just me that when the devs talk about "NIP- numbers", I shut off?

I know that devs people understand what the nip numbers but to average users who are not close to this projects and development would not make sense to us. It is causing confusion rather than collaboration.

If we want to expand #nostr beyond the dev techy people, would it makes sense if we start talking in layman's term about the development if we seek to grow?

We want to promote nostr but until we can speak in unison and of the same language that average people can relate, contribute and understand then it will be a downhill strategy for us.

If we want to educate, perhaps we can start speaking in less jargon. If there is a need for the jargon, at least explain it — make it inclusive to those who are not part of the team.

I like lists...

How about we #NIP-000 each entry so we can easily look it up in Nostr while learning and commenting?

That would work. The objective of this post is to educate those who are not in the dev team or do not understand what they stand for. Of course, you can go to github. But it is another journey for users to move away from nostr client before they get the answer.

How do you propose it to work? (genuinely curious) ☺️

Probably just as simple as reposting github nip definitions on nostr... Maybe a new nostr profile... Hashtags and all that good stuff...

I could do it. No need to bother anyone about it....

exciting! u r legend! ✌️👏

tried to zap you but you do not have LN address 🥴😭

No I'm still learning how to do that too. I see them as events only when reauthenticating amber on a new device. I got my Foundation Passport... will try to get that set up tonight... Thanks.

you may not know what a NIP is and use the same, the app you are using, if you don't know something ask questions.

if it is just me, I don't have to worry about NIP. Though it can be a hassle to look up each number to understand its definition or taxonomy. You can see on the thread the purpose of the post. Asking question is easy. Imagine this, every non-tech person asking the same thing over and over again, the same for those who are answering those questions. NIP is a standard guide of implementation for features use for Nostr. Each dev't has to comply to it if they need a robust product compatible to Nostr. I hope it makes sense why this post is out. ☺️

Personally I prefer nip numbers over corporate branding jargon

does it has to be corporate branding? could we not use simplified name without malice? whilst you can remember numbers and what it means, not everybody does. ✌️

I think he means like nicknames or brand names for each and every NIP... What about that lady that was making the playing cards out of nostr features?... Sometimes games simplify/automate/mesmerize the learning process...

I think the complexity / jargon of NIPs is unavoidable. It's just the nature of protocol development. When clients on the next layer up implement NIPs however, they should explain the new features in ways that are understandable for their users.

💯 agree. it is all about education and collaboration. People cannot contribute if they don't understand it. 😔
