If Coinbase stops their customers will be affected. If it dies, there are more than enough alternatives and version 2 by a different entity would be born as well.

As a rule nodes are not that important individually. Again Bitcoin is not a democracy so your choice of node software doesn’t matter except to you.

Also don't forget that all Coinbase customers can run their own node and that way they won't need Coinbase at all.

The nodes matter to the individuals. They don’t provide those individual any control over the network or matter to any other individual. The only people concerned about other peoples nodes are the fucking weirdos over at knots.
