People care the moment they need to transact and can’t. Otherwise they don’t care. Still don’t change the fact that the Coinbase node is doing more work than yours and has more economic value. I’m sorry that bothers you.
As a rule nodes are not that important individually. Again Bitcoin is not a democracy so your choice of node software doesn’t matter except to you.

Also don't forget that all Coinbase customers can run their own node and that way they won't need Coinbase at all.
