This may very well be controversial topic because everyone has it's own preferences and experience that reaching a solid conclusion may be impossible... but, here's the question: what's the best solution for btc / ln on an umbrel node, without hardware wallet, and with one easily available in Europe. I have my own node but I haven't really used it yet because there's too many options, what you say nostr?

need to make it more useful than only having my own mempool

Most important reason to run a bitcoin node is to verify your balance. Just load in your pubkeys via a descriptor wallet 👌 then you can get your node to notify you when you get paid over nostr via wallet otify + nostril 😎

kinda in the same boat as you. one thing i did was enable a bluewallet lightening wallet that routes through my node (instead of bluewallet). on chain, a lot of wallets will let you connect your node as the back end so no one can snoop on utxos you query

but do I use the basic wallet that comes by default or should I use another one from the app store to do those things..

fwiw, you may want to check out raspiblitz too. As for wallets on your node, since your node is hosting it, you could use something web-based like LNBits too.

yeah just the normal released app (but the type of wallet you create is different I believe). if you go to the connect wallets section of umbrel there are directions for wallets you can integrate with. so far the directions have worked pretty well for me.
