Hypernormalization is the best term I have found for this condition. People know there are problems, they just don't know what to do. Even with paths out of this condition, the FUD fog makes it hard to exit.

I'm trying to learn more about the artistic and intellectual underground in Soviet Russia as a reference. I'm currently reading The Master and Margarita.

Hypernormalisation is Kaczynski iirc. He definitely foresaw a lot of the fucked up shit the internet caused and how technology would become a method of state control that keeps us divided...

My understanding is the term was first introduced by Alexei Yurchak in the book, "Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation." I have not read the book, but it's on my reading list. I've read descriptions of the concept, and first heard a reference to the term on a Marty Bent TFTC podcast.
