What's the incentive behind telling people to get a wallet and zap? As a new user, it sounds pretty scammy to me. You're trying to get new users to inject the system with funds, but you haven't yet found a way to keep new users. These are terrible first impressions you've given me, and makes me doubt whether this platform is worth spending time on. I've yet to find any value here, and I think this nostr thing needs to work on that. Am I wrong?

You don't have to add funds. If you get the wallet and add the address to your nostr profile then I will send you some sats. Participate in discussions and other people will too. The thing that makes it cool is there is no middle man. I can send you something with real world value directly, in increments that are fractions of a penny, and it costs nothing to send. You can then do whatever you want with it. That's worth way more than collecting likes.
It's just a fun thing that makes nostr unique. It's not a scheme to extract money out of people. You don't have to participate if you don't want to, but there's no reason not to. Getting the wallet and adding the address costs you nothing.
I guess I'll try it- I went with a getalby wallet. It's still all foreign to me though.
One small benefit of being an early adopter of nostr is that you get access to very knowledgeable bitcoiners who are happy to help with any question you might have along the way. That access isn’t really available on any other platforms.
Well, I never really gave bitcoin stuff much of a thought before, and this nostr thing isn't really giving me a desire to either. I didn't come here for that type of thing. I'm not yet sure what I'm suppose to get out of all this, except perhaps a belief that I'm a part of something new for social media. Whether it amounts to anything, I can't tell yet.
Yep fair. Hope you can find some content on here that you enjoy as adoption continues to rise.
Thanks! I'll see how it goes. One thing that has been weird for me is how some stuff doesn't always load.. or how there might not be any notifications for things like replies, etc. Like sometimes I don't even see that there is a reply to one of my posts until I go directly to my post. I'm not sure if it's just bugs in the clients or what. I don't know which client is best either.
Sorry if the Bitcoin stuff seemed pushy. Nostr just aligns very well with the values of Bitcoin and you'll probably see a lot of talk about it if you stick around. If you aren't interested you'll probably not want to stick around. I sent you 100 sats anyway. That's worth about $0.03 and I was able to send it to you practically anonymously, across any border, and with almost no friction. I could have sent a lot more if I wanted. If the ability to do that doesn't pique your interest about Bitcoin at least a little bit, then I don't know what will.
