Tailscale makes it easily as possible if one has a VPS and (sub)domain to use.
As a long time raspiblitz user (multiple instances), a one-click install of tailscale would be great to use (preferably headscale👀) instead of the old IP2Tor method

Headscale would need to run on a machine with a reachable public IP address, usually a VPS.

Headscale is a coordinator server, it needs to be publicly exposed for the tailscale clients to be able to connect out to it.
Your node at home is typically behind a router NAT and firewalled. It should remain that way.
Tailscale can be used as a VPN if you advertise an exit node on any other client and connect to it. Your IP address would appear as the public IPaddress of that exit node. This is independent from using Headscale or the Tailscale coordinator.

I was thinking more of a hybrid model; using both headscale and tailscale.
I read/watched someone setup where they self-hosted everything with headscale, then used tailscale as the public IP. It was a interesting/creative setup.

I'm keeping an eye on haven development and might create a StartOS wrapper for it (when I have some time off). Might be after StartOS 0.3.6 release, so I don't have to do it twice :)

I have an Umbrel, and I'm not a technical person at all, so I look forward to it.
Umbrel is not FOSS though, they have a polyform noncommercial license. That's not very common in this space and feels off, I don't like it. Other then that, no problems with Umbrel, the UI is great ;)
