At the moment there are school vacations in Germany (at least in most of the federal states). This time always reminds me of my kids’s complicated school days. I have always been my kids’s ally all these years. The German school system has not always made it easy for us. But it was clear to me: school will not hurt my kids. I have to accept that they have to go to school and that our system demands certain degrees, but I can prevent the school system from hurting their souls. That’s how we spent the years as a sworn team. Today try to motivate all parents to be the allies of their kids and not of the system. Have a wonderful vacation 💜🧡🫶🏼

Ich habe mich noch nicht tiefgründig damit beschäftigt (meine Tochter ist erst 1 1/2) aber was ich weiß müssen periodisch gewisse vorgegebene Prüfungen vom Kind abgelegt werden. Für den Lehrenden gibt es keine Voraussetzungen. Das kann ein Elternteil machen, auch ohne Ausbildung dazu

Es ist eine große Verantwortung. Am Ende geht es um die Zukunft der Kinder und es ist Zeitintensiv

Vielleicht. Wir kommen aus dem Süden Deutschlands. Allerdings war ich früher vielleicht auch noch nicht so weit. Wer weiß also?

Ich muss zugeben, dass wir es insgesamt gut gemeistert haben. Die drei sind starke Persönlichkeiten. Sie gehen ihren Weg, haben gelernt, was sie können. Sie wissen, dass es ok ist Grenzen zu setzen und nicht alles mitzumachen

Das ist gut. Am Ende kommt es auch sehr auf die Erziehung an. Und auch wie man (als Kind und Jugendlicher) selbst ist. Ich konnte mich noch nie Autoritäten unterordnen. Und ich ging in ein bischöfliches Gymnasium.

Oh, das klingt hart. Ich selbst war als Kind sehr angepasst. Bis heute gibt es Sätze meiner Lehrer, die ich nicht vergessen habe. Ich hatte da nie Unterstützung. Daher habe ich mir von Anfang an vorgenommen, dass ich das bei meinen Kindern nicht zulasse

Naja, ich wollte in diese Schule. Und im Nachhinein muss ich sagen, dass diese Erfahrung, obwohl nicht immer toll, im Großen und Ganzen sehr wertvoll war,

Das größte Problem für mich war schon von der Grundschule an, dass ich nicht ruhig sitzen konnte und dass ich alles relativ schnell kapiert habe und mir dann im Klassenraum schnell fad war. Ich musste mit 9 schon die Klasse wechseln weil die Lehrerin nicht mit mir klar kam.

Und ich sehe jetzt bei meiner Tochter schon, dass sie auch nicht still sitzen kann. Sie wird also mit Sicherheit nicht in das normale Schulsystem gezwungen werden, obwohl ich wie gesagt im Nachhinein scho finde, dass ich trotzdem viel gelernt habe.

We're in the process of exempting our kids from the school system, though they are still required to take standardized tests. At least, homeschooling our kids will give them a much better learning environment.

Bureaucracy is a bitch...

The wrong people are becoming teachers, the wrong things are being taught and it's not about the kids. I know nothing about the US schooling system

The U.S. education system isn't too different. The salaries for elementary, middle, and high school teachers are very low compared to the past few decades, therefore they don't really give a crap about helping our students. It's the same situation for college professors.

Tuition has also skyrocketed! We have students paying EGREGIOUS sums of money just for one year of college. The state college near my house used to cost a little over 8k per year when I attended back in 2010. Now, it costs just under 20k per year. More and more high school graduates are choosing not attend and prefer to get a job immediately after graduation. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that was one of big reasons I wanted to get out of Germany before our kids reach school age.

In other countries you have some alternative like home schooling or alternate schooling. In Germany you have The System...
