I don't own a Blockclock. I've wanted one for years though. They're expensive. So, I never bought one. I figured it was better to spend those funds on more bitcoin.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Solid reasoning, but they are a lot of fun.

Gotta enjoy life a little ;)

I rarely buy things for myself. I get to go to Bitcoin and Nostr conferences around the world. That's good enough for me.

That’s great to hear if that’s your thing.

I’m just always a bit skeptical of the “if you own a bed you are still short Bitcoin” and the “never sell your Bitcoin” thinking and your note reminded me of that.

I think money is a means to an end and not the end itself. Even if it’s the best money ;)

make your own blockclock. the components are super cheap at jameco :p

I'm sure it would be a fun project. I have so many of those thought 😅

arduino for kids. https://makezine.com/

one year I had a goal of just getting back into electronics,

so every weekend I'd make a goal of doing a short project, could be as simple as getting a led light to blink on an arduino. and had to finish it by weekend over.

just set the endorphins on fire. was addictive enough to make me come back for a little bit more each time. :D

I'm a Digikey lad because discounts and bulk pricing :) Gotta get extra to fill up the parts drawers :)

Makes sense to me too🤷‍♂️

When I get a block clock, when I have a smartphone app and various websites that give me the same information.

Why get* Thanks speech to text and me instantaneously hitting post instead of rereading what I wrote. 😂

I figure they're going to have to add a couple more slots for the extra digits anyway, so just wait for V2. And besides, they only get cheaper in terms of bitcoin. 😁

Oh. Good point.

Maybe Santa is reading this tho

I heard Santa is bringing the bitcoin-only version to nostr:npub17k8u7c6kfjgtd380890zx0m4adu8vl53m9fvtc7lal4j9gp74xqqkguha4 for the Bitcoin Xmas giveaway.

But where do you draw a line?

I won one at the ladies brunch in Nashville a micro block clock

Nice!

jealous

We need a company that can build a better one for half the price.

I respect that. I got the lil micro one as a compromise: looking at it on my windowsill still gives me a little spark of excitement (the “cool” factor of case-less electronics) and it’s proven to be a useful conversation-starter when we have guests.

That said, the unit (like many things) may someday prove to be an extravagantly expensive toy, in terms of its Bitcoin-denominated purchase price… but this is true of any non-essential expenditure… It’s true of the essential ones too, but a man’s gotta eat 😂

It’s cool that every individual’s value-set or perspective varies in this way, sometimes slightly/sometimes dramatically. And what’s even cooler, is the impact that the experience of holding Bitcoin has on each of us, in how it shifts our way of valuing things, time, energy.

Thanks brother. Needed a reminder

Build one.

I think there are diy guides for building one with a raspberry pi

Borrow off of some of your bitcoin to buy a blockclock :D

Yeah, I don't have a Blockclock but I did get a TickrMeter a while back and kind of regret it. Not because it's a bad product but because it's a distraction. Shouldn't worry about the price of BTC day to day if at all.

It’s possible that if bitcoin does what we think it will, blockclock and similar OG artifacts will appreciate like OG gameboys.

Probably best to buy more Bitcoin though.
