Yeah it indicates that new events will be inserted directly into the timeline (previous behaviour). If you scroll down it will queue them to be added until you click the button

"Load n more" is intrusive and distracting IMHO.

Pull to refresh will be better. User refreshes when ready to do so after reading current screen. Less intrusive/distracting.

Tapping the Home icon at the bottom left should pull to refresh. It shows a red dot that new posts are available.
