may I suggest Austin

Seconded

A small town no one has heard of, but a bunch of folks remember driving through once.

😬

Liberland

Tombstone, Arizona around 1890.

lol, yeah was gonna say "Deadwood" - same idea 🤣

Texas. If Texas was a city.

cloud city

Boise Idaho? Freedom refugees from the west coast. It’s a heath and tech focused city of young professionals. I think the laws are fairly libertarian

Valletta?

Victoria, British Columbia would be Threads…. #elbowsup

Quartzsite, AZ during the rubber tramp rendezvous.

Austin and Boise are both very blue cities, democratic mayors, etc…. Also, too big for where NOSTR is at right now. Also - too many females. Maybe Anchorage Alaska? No real political identity besides leave me alone - half the town is there because they didn’t fit elsewhere. Few females. Tons of self reliance because of the external environment. Somehow just living there, checks come your way every year.

Not Boise. I take that back. El Salvador possibly.

But maybe nostr is more analogous to a different time that anywhere currently

Def not El Salvador or any of its cities

That’s an authoritarian regime

Houston.

without all of the people

Jaco, Costa Rica.

portland is so trash lmao

Hi gladstein 💜 nice to meet you 🤝 I've heard about you here because they say you're an activist who fights for just causes. I don't know if it's true but I hope so. Admiration

🤝

not anywhere big enough to be a city

NY or Amsterdam

It would be Atlantis

Well… 😅

#Madeira

Texas

Mexico City? lol

Casablanca

Wakanda

Madeira or prague

Funchal maybe

That looks cool, I like the sound design too.

"In the Walled City...", as on Nostr, "If you give help... You'll get help back"

😊 people were bonded by this mantra. The Walled City was truly autonomous then (not in a nice way). It was not part of any constitution and was run outside the judiciary of the Hong Kong Government, the Qing Imperial Court of China, and the British Government. Regarding to the film, my little cousin told me the fight choreography was arranged by a Japanese master who speaks fluent Cantonese.

I think the world could have done fine with 26000m2 of true autonomy there. The more I learn about it today, the more I respect it.

"Kowloon Walled City inspired the author William Gibson, he called it 'a hive of dream'"

A hive of dream it was for those who made it theirs. But, it was also a place of extreme violent and insanitary. Since they didn’t get any govt fundings, they would have to make do improvise and built from the ground with little resources in the beginning. I cannot imagine living there. Anyway, the city was gone and the redevelopment of the district starts in a few months…

That trailer looks good

Hi Yodl! Yes, it looks good. Apparently its premier at the Cannes got a 10mins standing ovation…I missed it when it was open in the UK last year

Oh wow, looks like it did well (just checked out Wikipedia). Was just talking martial arts movies earlier this morning. I'm taking it as a sign to watch this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Oh yes, don’t ignore signs! 😁 but thank Gregor, I randomly saw his reply to Gladstein, thought Id reply with this trailer and then attracted you!

Saving it for next movie night

It’s out on VHS already? 😂 Let me know if you like it!

lol is that a diss on the state of tech in the great US of A?!

Let you know if I see it 🫡🦅🇺🇸

He or she knows you probably do your video playback like your Wordle puzzles, way behind in time haha

I kid, I kid, put that beer mug back down

😂 me = she

Yeh Yod strikes me as a gentleman who is nostalgic (in a good way).

Thank you for the shoutout, Wonky, I appreciate what this thread brought out.

Oh and for the full record, I only saw the question because of nostr:npub1wucnc53kjjlue2s9qdqppan3gczqnququalp8hhd5sxuj9p8aafs9eha2m regularly dunking on nostr:npub1trr5r2nrpsk6xkjk5a7p6pfcryyt6yzsflwjmz6r7uj7lfkjxxtq78hdpu, so a real Butterfly Effect event chain

The never ending thread. Now I want to know what made Callum post what he posted that led to Gladstein’s reply!

Oh, Callum posts his very own style of commentary here, feel free to check out that particular link in the chain here

I hate to just name my own city, but #Vancouver is a decent match

Given the book of a similar name, I can't help but think "Nostr is Venice."

Istanbul

Bitcoin Beach?

Miami

Beograd

Paradise City...

In the context of the history of civilization, Bitcoin is Ur.

"Yo, you really think Bitcoin's the OG city of Ur in this digital age? 🤔 What’s got you vibin' with that comparison? #CryptoChronicles"

It’s the genesis block of a new financial and technological paradigm, a "city" built on code, consensus, and trustlessness rather than mud bricks and rivers.

Bitcoin is both eternal in its impact and mortal in its future. If Ur was the spark of urban civilization, Bitcoin is the spark of digital sovereignty—vital, messy, and still unfolding.
