I’m genuinely curious—how do some people on NOSTR grow their following to tens or even hundreds of thousands in just a few years? Is it just consistency, or is there something more to it? I’m here to share quality content and connect with like-minded folks, but I also want to feel like what I’m doing here really matters, and it feels like a waste of my time some days. Not always, but some days!
Discussion
I never look at how many followers i have (technically it’s not really possible without some incorrect centralized indexer).
Follower counts don’t matter. What does matter is meeting cool people and genuine interactions. I think we need to de-program people from the idea that follow counts = status or measure of quality.
this.
don't worry about follower counts.
just vibe, share, and interact
:3
I actually know where OP is coming from.
While I’m unapologetically me here, but I also have to read into the signals about where I’m providing value.
While I definitely don’t think anyone owes me their attention, it is a 2-way thing meaning, if I follow you, I reply thoughtfully to you, and I never get any sort of acknowledgment that I even replied (doesn’t necessarily have to be a follow), then I will also unfollow you because we have asymmetric engagement, and I don’t owe you my attention either. 🙂
What Will said, but also think of it this way.
Your accurate follower count is my lack of privacy.
Why should you know if I'm following you?
How do you know if I'm following you?
If I create an npub and I don't post or interact at all, but I simply follow a bunch of other npubs I'm interested in, why should you know about that?
It's a different take on the world, but it's an important part of freedom.
I hear you, but discovery still matters. If no one sees what you post, then what’s the point? Decentralization's great, but without some way to connect, it just feels like yelling into the void.
Why should I know if you are following me? Do you answer anonymous calls? I don't
Boils down to if you want 100 percent privacy, don't post anything online. It seems best to culture your following to hopefully have a decent group of folks taht wehn you post, they see it, interact and you can converse about it if you want.
Nostr IS a social network isn't it?
It's cult shit + centralized manipulation with apps like Primal
I get the frustration with centralized-feeling apps like Primal, but I’m just trying to figure out how content gets discovered on Nostr at all. If no one sees it, what’s the point of posting? Decentralized or not, people still need a way to find each other. It's just a question. I have no evil intention.
I use Jumble's Explore and noStrudel's Global, this webpage might help https://nostrapps.com/#discovery#all
And i'm sure some people watch my notes, a note here a note there and I've had a few interactions.
So far so good, but I don't expect much from Nostr anyways.
No intention of trying to start a religion, there's enough already. Therefore follower count irrelevant.
Consistency yes, but here the numbers are smaller, there's only 40k nostr users active(and growing)
Why does anyone want “followers”? What makes you a “leader”? I’m not being rude. I’m asking genuine questions. Let’s say you do want followers…why so many? If they’re not engaging in your content, then what’s the benefit? For example, if I see a person with 1 million followers, I question why would so many people follow 1 person. I would say “who are you? What are you doing that is so profound?” Not in a rude way but only God should have a large following.
You state, “I’m here to share quality content and connect with like-minded folks”. That tells me you want a *community*.
Therefore, if you’re interested in numbers, I think the goal should be to build a community and have a large one. If I see a community of 1 million people socializing and engaging with one another, I would want to be part of that community.
I’m not a fan of follower count. On a psychological and social level, it has unintended consequences. We see those consequences on other platforms.
Lastly, I think there should be more clients that allow for communities to exist. It’s hard to create a community on Primal because of the design. It’s not Primal’s fault because it’s designed like Twitter. I know people are working on things. There’s Ditto right now. Hopefully more will roll out soon.
I wish you all the best.
Check out Flotilla for another example of communities on Nostr. Not being used much yet, but could be a great tool for that purpose.
Link?
Flotilla.social
It's relay-based communities. So to have your own community, you would need to run your own relay for it.
Thanks. I’ve heard of it but it was a while back. I’ll revisit them again. Tag the creator of the client.
Dev is nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn, who also developed #Coracle.
Ok. Just making sure. I didn’t want to accidentally tag the wrong person. 🥴😅

Can you make a demo video showing the features? Basically, I want to see a commercial or marketing video of your client in action before I request a demo.
Sure, I'll put something together
Thank you. 🫂
Does this do the trick?

I also added it to the website.
If your part of the primal auto follow you can jump your count. Mysrlfbiys just day in & out being me
Everyone follows Derek. Derek finds the content and interacts with it in some way and we all see it. We then interact with your content. Through Derek we find new people.
Don’t think of the numbers. Just engage daily and be yourself while trying to add value. Don’t try to think of hacking it. You can’t.
