In laymans terms, meaning?

Unlike hard disks, data in RAM is not persistent.

When something is RAM only, it means that nothing is written to disk which consequently means that whenever that server is shut down, all data about your network traffic to their VPN servers are lost.

Data should age out of cache faster too. It’s a cool move I wish more VPNs would do. You can’t be forced to give up logs if you don’t have any.

Very cool. I use Mullvad, paid in sats ✌️

Hell yes 🤙

huge

That's neat but how can they operate with 0 persistence? After a reboot they wouldn't know who should have access, right? Doesn't that mean a paid 'account' can only last as long as the servers don't reboot?

The entirety of Mullvad is not operated with 0 persistence. The VPN traffic has temporary persistence in RAM and account & credit is probably stored in a database, either permanently or temporary.

Right, that's what I was wondering about. I guess to minimize the risk of being associated with that account number people should switch accounts fairly often.
