it's really sad how most people can't think beyond the direct effects of their actions

don't they ever think about how others deal with the effects that their actions create?

they look at an electric car and think "oh that's less polution, it's sustainable" and don't think about the far less efficient path from lumps of coal to their shiny quiet vehicle, a path which is like 6 minimum steps assuming they live within 10km of the power plant that generates the power

yes it makes our city air cleaner but no it doesn't make the atmosphere cleaner, the opposite, the losses are at least 30% greater than directly burning the fuel inside the vehicle

what you can't see still exists, guys

I’ve seen this perfectly boiled down to the Dean Norris (happy vs mad face) meme. Electric car = happy face, bitcoin mining = mad face. Just can’t seem to find it atm

High time-preference + low empathy = a bad time. Fortunately, those can be fixed if people choose to

Electric cars have their place in urban usage, they def contribute to less toxic air and noice pollution (less illnesses, better quality of life in cities), as even fossil power plants have very effective exhaust gas cleaning nowadays in most countries.

Also they drive really fun (much torque) and are pretty reliable (much less moving parts, complexity) if developed well.

Efficiency wise they're still way behind diesel cars but the energy loss is a fair price for breathable air and healthier environment in cites. Especially in winter exhaust gas cleaning, even with modern cars, can take kilometers of driving till heat up to become effective

it's true, but it's only really relevant to city dwellers and i think cities are an unhealthy place to be for many other reasons without cars in the equation

out in the country and for long haul transport it's completely impractical

here in the mountains, diesel is also retarded, electric is a bit better but hybrid diesel makes the most sense, especially since regen brakes can charge the electric side well on half of the trip and has way more torqe for the uphill - brake wear and piston wear are plagues in the local vehicles i see driving around

Agreed and followed 🫂⚡
