Truth. I was a kid in the early 90s recession, but I do remember the govt telling people not to worry and to spend money. It didn't work then.

We have a much more openly controlled media ecosystem now, but are also far more dependent on external "black money" capital flows from India and China. Those governments may not choose to play along...
