the cultural phenomenon of elevating penny stock promoters as heroes while painting open source devs as villains is disappointing

maybe it was unavoidable

probably does not matter in the grand scheme of things

As always, give it time. The truth will always win out.

Probably does matter in the grand scheme of things

there are plenty of us who remain dedicated to growing and supporting the bitcoin open source ecosystem

I remember watching The margin call with Kevin Spacey and his chairman asking him to dump the stock on unsuspecting victims. There are always fat cats and starving dogs

Seguiremos apoyando y defendiendo el código abierto

Totally agree. It’s frustrating, but the real impact of open-source work always shines through in the long run.

This opensource developers with God complex that are measing around with my life savings and the only inheritance for my 5 years old daughter? That you fund?

Just cause someone works on open source doesn't mean they are a hero or villain. Is this a vague reference to something?

> Just cause someone works on open source doesn't mean they are a hero or villain

agree

mmhmm. yes. that’s right.

Pretty sure no one that views penny stock promoters as ā€œheroesā€ gives 2 craps about open source developers.

To call this a ā€œcultural phenomenonā€ is reaching a lot

Would love to hear why open source developers are immune to blackmail, peer pressure, and immorality. Maybe we can give that protective shield to our politicians. Wouldn’t that be nice

> Would love to hear why open source developers are immune to blackmail, peer pressure, and immorality

never said they were, they are people

stock promoters are not immune to that either

Many implicitly or explicitly behave as though that’s the case.

Correct, but stock promoters are not seen as special or authoritative unlike CORE developers. They also have no power to degrade Bitcoin unlike CORE developers. You may disagree, but there are good reasons to characterize certain developers as villains based on recent behavior. Luke and Mechanic would happily lay out the case if they haven’t already.

Ya but, you have heard of this penny stock.

Wanna buy some of my stonks?

Quick profits come and go. The value of what you’re building stays.

Clout chasers get the spotlight while builders get the shadows. But history remembers code, not promoters. ⚔🫶
