Much of the trouble comes from religions supplying a framework of control for the politically inclined to take advantage. There are countless religious leaders that are interchangeable with the dirtiest politician.

It is just another collectivist weapon, but an insidious one that can not be questioned similar to democracy today.

I would argue we do not need a moral instruction manual, morality appears because it is the most stable productive state but it is important that each person learn this first hand, hopefully as a child.
