A celestial body that was tidally locked and had environmental constants (light / dark / hot / cold / etc) would be such an interesting situation.

Granted the place in question could support life, Iโ€™d imagine that forms would become hyper-specialized to their unchanging environment. No daily or seasonal shifts like night or winter (or day or summer) to waste adaptive capacity on.

Anyways Iโ€™m gonna go make some money then touch grass. Enjoy the day frens.

Doesnโ€™t a planet in the habitable zone around a main star still just end up baking on one side and freezing on the other? And if it had a habitable equatorial zone it would circle the poles where the light meets the dark?

I think it would be dependent on the given conditions of the solar system how hot / cold latitudinal poles got but it is my understanding there would be perma day, dusk and night on a tidally locked planet. Iโ€™m no astronomer though lol

Astronomical amount of variables to consider ๐Ÿ˜†

Too much space for consideration ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is what it feels like to me when I visit the equator ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ life seems so chill and unchanging ther. ๐ŸŒปwhere's the struggle? (Other than the struggle of everyone wanting to be there)

Definitely the closest analog but imagine no days or nights either. I bet vision would get so specialized.

Tropical places are so nice I didnโ€™t want to leave Miami ๐Ÿ˜‚โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒŠ

I've def read some sci-fi about humanlike races living on a planet like this. The band between light and dark side (basically the perpetual twilight) was the only good spot. ๐Ÿ˜Ž The full light and full dark were the ghetto wastelands

Thatโ€™s awesome I need to read more sci-fi. Any recs?

Well, might be fun to read some sci-fi short story classics to get started if you haven't read em before, like Ray Bradbury, or Isaac Asimov. Compilations like R is for rocket, golden apples of the sun, any Asimov compilation.

I need to read Asimov and Bradbury. Iโ€™m going to read a bunch of their stuff this year. Thanks

My understanding is that a tidally locked body physically cannot retain an atmosphere and for this reason could never support life.

Donโ€™t ruin my daydreams ๐Ÿ˜‚
