If Bitcoin lasts, why wouldn't the majority of hash exist off Earth at some point in the future?
Unpopular opinion. Humans will never live off earth. Vacation, yes. Scientific study, yes. But children will not grow up in space or on other planets.

I love the geekiness of this and I guess the reason these numbers are worthy of being on the dashboard is because the distance of these heavenly bodies keeps changing?
And with distance also the time?
I am personally guessing that another planet, should they choose to work on a #bitcoin standard, would be better of running there own side chain with federated block chain nodes.
Or maybe the Fedi mint tech will get to a point where not every planet needs to run its own chain 😂 who knows 🤔

If humans are still using Bitcoin after becoming multiplanetary then it’s likely mining infrastructure moves closer to the sun for abundant cheap energy. It would be an arms race to see who could capture more sunlight to power their rigs.
You might expect to see mining equipment in a tighter orbit around the sun so those machines have less latency between each other as well. This also lowers average latency for on chain transactions since planets are often on opposing sides of the sun so a lot of communication has to pass by there anyway.

If our civilization is interplanetary, mining will occur when electricity is the cheapest, i.e. near the sun (not the earth).
I’d probably bet on hard fork Genesis block instances for every 10 light minutes in distance, first settlers can mine with the equivalent of a laptop and the emergence of interplanetary exchange rates. Fun to ponder 🤔
