Holy hell guns here are cheap. What are the rules about buying a pistol in one state and taking it home in a different state?

Depends entirely on the states in question. Probably fine in any free state, but not if "home" is a communist state.

In the US? It’s more about the state you are entering, rather than the one you are leaving. In general, you can buy a pistol in any state and take it to another as long as it is locked up and not loaded. If you have a conceal license, then things get different. Once it enters your car (in most states) it is considered concealed and does not allow you to open carry in your vehicle, which the constitution allows you to do anywhere but gun free zones (schools, banks).

Some states require you to register a pistol at purchase, others do not.

Home state doesn't require a permit but wasn't sure about carrying it back across multiple state lines

This has been experience as well.

So whatchya getting?

Be very cautious about this if crossing blue states, especially NY, CA or anywhere in the northeast USA. Each state has different laws. NY considers a gun loaded even if the gun is actually unloaded and you just have ammunition in the same bag/piece of luggage, and they’ll slap you with a felony. Best piece of advice: lock it up unloaded in sept rate container from ammo and other accessories, and don’t get pulled over.

Illinois bad too. Freedom hatin sons of bitches

Who cares?

Free men don’t ask permission.

First rule is don't ask things like that on a public forum.

I don't think that's a rule. Never heard it before anyways.

Nice try, Fed.

Gee thanks. Nice to be recognised once in a while.

Don't get got. Which means, have a plan. And a good plan.
