To be fair, why does it contain milk? It is made from cream. Milk is also made from cream. Buttermilk of course is the byproduct of churning. No milk should be involved.

I think it's just a brilliant marketing play by Costco to troll the internet
LOL at people making fun of others because they themselves are stupid. This is because of allergy labeling. Milk is a top 5 allergen and must be declared on the label of any product that would trigger an allergic reaction, which includes butter.
Of course real butter contains milk, but is this real butter or one of the many fakes?
Of course this could be solved by a sticker instead of destroying the product, Government is pretty stupid too.
But I believe this actually speaks to a deeper issue of the entire problem altogether is that there is all of this fiat marketing that must take place that is allowed by the government bureaucracy that gives companies the ability to proclaim that they are one thing when in fact They are not that so by proxy them being able to say that they are butter when they are actually not butter and are margarine instead makes this problem in the first place
As an anarchist, this is one of the few things I wonder about without government. The government oversight of food and drugs was a response to patent medicines and their heyday. Give them an inch and they take a mile, so today they are a giant wasteful, harmful, corrupt mess same as any other agency.
It will take real effort on the part of the people to not go back to patent medicines and a total mess. On the plus side we may get seed oil free and emulsifier free branding out of it instead of a bunch of stuff that doesn't matter or help.
