It's new years eve and for the first time in years I have no resolutions. I feel settled, loved and that I have enough.

Surf and turf Christmas lunch here too. Hot and sunny and a bit of time at the beach. Perfect Christmas.

Welcome to the obsession that is sourdough baking!

I sort of squashed them with a spoon so the split open a little.

I'm surprised by how much it's changed in a couple of weeks! Now finding things to do with it is the next step.

You could listen to the Hobbit with the whole family. Listening to stories together on long drives is one of my favourite childhood memories.

And you don't need to get a puppy. Something a bit older and well trained might be an easier option ๐Ÿ˜‰

The first 3 stories on my feed this morning:

Me too! 2026 is going to be the best year yet

Not alone on Nostr. I'm in the process of degoogling my life at the moment and honestly shocked at how intertwined it is in all facets of life admin.

Working through this current and learning how inconvenient privacy can be. Slowly degoogling is eye-opening into just how entangled it is into everything.

More Than Just the Eggs

While the eggs are the delicious payoff, the benefits donโ€™t stop there. Keeping a small flock introduces you to the gentle rhythm of caring for animals. Thereโ€™s a quiet satisfaction in letting them out in the morning, watching them explore, and collecting warm eggs from the nesting box. Itโ€™s a small connection to a more self-sufficient lifestyle, right in your own garden.

Honestly these are the problems I'm glad we have.

Yeah it's the raw garlic but also the honey that can be a breeding grown for botulinum. My understanding is there is a certain pH required for it to grow so I'll be testing the end product and adding apple cider vinegar to increase pH if needed for safety.

My first go at honey fermented garlic ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿณ

If anyone has experience doing this let me know your tips!

Welcome!! Highly recommend following a few hashtags to find likeminded people.

You are theakgo here so it takes a little bit to get comfortable and find your folk.

Absolutely beautiful! Can I ask what flour and hydration level you use?

Our butter lives on the benchtop so it's always soft and spreadable. Get yourself a butter dish and see what living is really about!!

Bitchat wow. ๐Ÿคฏ

I'm so impressed with how simple and clean this app is. I'm not particularly tech minded and usually have a bit of a learning curve with any new app or system but this is just so easy.

Well done nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgkwaehxw309a5xjum59ehx7um5wghxcctwvshszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qrxnfk and nostr:nprofile1qqsgydql3q4ka27d9wnlrmus4tvkrnc8ftc4h8h5fgyln54gl0a7dgsppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2ap0qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kytc79p4zh

First step is to source some kefir grains. You can buy them online but be careful of "powdered" fake kefir.

Once you get your grains you have to bring them back to life so to speak which is both simple and complicated. You simply feed the grains fresh milk changing it every 48 hours but you've got to watch for under and over fermenting.

Then once they are alive and active just strain off the kefir every 24 hours and enjoy. Keep feeding the grains with fresh milk. Any milk will do but it must have lactose so from an animal is necessary.

If you get some grains they have the instructions for activation with them so that's super helpful.

This is kefir. It lives on the counter and is basically the milk version of a Tamagotchi needing daily feeding.

It's super alive and vibrant with probiotics and is amazing for gut health.

You don't even have to do anything weird with it! Just eat it and the probiotics make their way to all the "target areas" in your gut.

Quick check of the calendar this morning shows absolutely nothing scheduled... 5 min of discussion later with have a to-do list of all the neglected farm chores that's going to completely fill our day. ๐Ÿ˜‚

You should look at building a waterbomb mechanism for your drone! That would freak me out having random unknown people on my property.

Morons will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Breakfast: smashed avo with goats cheese and poached eggs on sourdough toast.

Dinner: slow cooked brisket paired with baked sweet potato covered in grated cheddar, sour cream and honey.

For your info to share with him we soak the grains in a bucket 1 part grains to 2 parts water for three days then just pour it out in their run to eat. It's a fully balanced poultry mix to start as we have ducks and chickens.

We started a trial of fermenting our poultry feed about two weeks ago. What we've noticed in that short time is more consistent laying, slightly larger eggs, brighter yolk and better structure in the white and as a bonus they eat less of it.

All in all we are happy so far and it's been worth the little extra effort in daily feeding.

Our calendula has started coming up and I'm keen to try to make a batch of calendula soap. We have a baby arriving next year and I want to have as much quality low tox soap pre made as possible. I'll try that infusion process and see how it comes out โ˜บ๏ธ

I have deep wood shavings on the floor of our coup too and the girls love it but do still lay in their boxes most of the time.

Auto door would make our mornings even more relaxed and I think would be worth it.

I'm looking at a lot more trees going in over the next few years. The paddocks we have with shade are beautiful and the cattle seem very content there.
