Maybe read up on how to train a dog first. I’ve seen a few first time dog owners with very poorly behaved dogs, because their owners just didn’t train them. Now all of their friends have to suffer, too.

Dogs are gifts but they shouldn't given as gifts.
Your kids will want any dog. Try to choose the right one for your family & yard. Be patient, the right dog will come along.
I lived most of my life without a dog. Last 4 years I have lived with my girlfriend’s dog once we moved in together and can’t imagine life without him. Your home life will be infinitely better, beautiful animals.
Dogs are the best people
Make sure you can stand them. Dogs are needy, demanding and selfish. I don't tolerate people behaving like that, so I don't much like dogs either.
