I grow lots of inedible weeds. Food that grows like weeds sounds a lot more productive and fun!!
Enjoy the tour. I love to hear your thoughts and a few tip you learn.
Seeking tips for little things you've implemented to raise the standard of living for the animals on you farm.
In our first year of homesteading together nostr:nprofile1qqs8v3q3nvvwc444kfmeurgrtem392wkd8dlhedjch693j6kftake9gpzdmhxue69uhhwmm59e6hg7r09ehkuef0qj82pr and I worked on setting up good systems for managing the basic needs of our animals and now are looking to boost their overall welfare.
We've got cattle, goats, chickens and ducks and are keen to hear about any other animals you enjoy keeping too.

New rabbithole!! Thank you.
Pure whey or do you dilute it? I make a bit of cheese and always wonder what to do with the whey.
Today I learned that you can pour the layer of whey from your homemade yoghurt into your sourdough starter to boost the lacto fermenting bacteria population.
Women who choose a C section and women who choose home birth have more in common than those who get swept up in the medical process and don't have feel like they have autonomy to make decisions. I'm so glad your wife had an empowered birth experience! Informed consent and choices are the most important thing in any birth.
We have two paddocks that we don't put the animals through. We have plans to hay them out on alternative years so we aren't depleting the soil too much. We could definitely run the herd through the other up to harvest. Lots to think about. Farming is such a science and everyones context is so different. I love hearing what others are doing.
"You don't become confident by shouting affirmations in the mirror, but by having a stack of undeniable proof that you are who you say you are."

Makes a lot of sense.
We are still trying to figure out our system. We've only been at our place for a year but we have very dry summers with no grass growth. Pasture comes back in the winter. I'm thinking our best calving time might be end of winter. We are playing with our options. I hadn't factored in kill dates. That's definitely something id like to properly plan for too.
Are you aiming for spring calving because of the pasture or the weather? What kind of climate are you in?
What a beautiful dog and so lucky to have someone to care for her.
Me too. I figure they'll start bringing it up again next bear market and I'll talk to them then.
Or start to live the change you want to see in yourself and keep the profile as proof of growth ๐
They have an area a little bigger than a tennis court which is our main orchard with lots of native vegetation to get under to hide from the Eagles. I have a 4 acre paddock next to that which I'm looking at options to open up for them but there's less cover. They spend most of their time in their pond under the stone fruit trees which is right by their coup anyway.
It's all kaikuyu!!!
But yes so much greener here now that the rains have started
They don't get the full 40 acres but they do have a big area that is theirs to roam in. For safety we lock them up in a fox proof area over night.
Today's garden helpers โบ๏ธ๐๐ฆ
They get first pass for pest control then I'll get the weeding done.

Lots of little happy quacks from the crew this morning

I used to not be an emoji person and had perfect punctuation and spelling in text messages but was told that I had no text personality and seemed pissed off all the time ๐
Who knew full stops were passive aggressive ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Now I'm an emoji person and I find my most used emojis are a nice little pulse check on my mood too so theres that ๐๐ฉ๐ผโ๐พ
I might give it ago with my beagle ๐ถ
Do your dogs chew on the coconut shell at the end?
How did they go? Was there a learning curve for the chickens?
Spent the day with family and friends watching the whales, eagles and bees.

Pic care of my sister (who loves bees and photography)
We're finally here on Nostr!

The future of self custody is here!!
My parents put in a deliberate effort for us to build connections with our cousins as kids. Now as adults those who I have a genuine friendship with remain in contact and those who were just part of the family time have drifted away. I'm ok with this. Fewer but deeper connections feels very wholesome.
Yeah I listened to the radio on my way into town and it was news time and it got under my skin so fast!
My life is exactly as I want it to be. I find joy and gratitude in every day. I was surprised how 15 min of external bullshit really got to me.
Today made scones the way my Nan used to without referencing the recipe.
I used fresh churned butter with fresh buttermilk and they are as good as I remember hers being.
It made me feel like she's still here, for a moment.
