FIY, nostr does not have algorithms. We have natural human interaction and organic content discovery.

This is a huge change from what you might be used to, but stick around and you’ll see your mood improve.

Part of that is no algos pushing enraging content on you. Part of it is having the breathing room to slow down and not keep up with everything.

And the people are much kinder.

Perfect summary.

I’m surprised no one has tried to make some kind of algorithmic feed on top of nostr yet, though.

There are. Primal for example

Couldn’t figure out how to log in there

You need something like Nostore (iOS) or Alby browser extension to manage the login I think

Most liked from my friends of friends is amazing for content discovery. I don’t understand why people are against algorithms. They’re are only bad if they’re a mystery

They are ok for content discovery but ultimately hijack your attention and keep your mind drip fed, wasting away

Not against algorithms

Against a universal, unknown, unmodificable, inexorable algorithm

And we’ll have plenty of algorithms in nostr; they’ll just be voluntary, local, and transparent

That’s the nice part - we can choose not to use any algos (hopefully) and that will always be the client I’ll go with.

Same

You follow 400 people. I’m sure some of those people post a lot and some post a little.

The only way to keep up is to have some kind of algorithm right? Or what is your usage like?

Not all algorithms will be local and transparent but all will be voluntary. You will always be able to switch them and sometimes at the cost of using a different client.

Eso hombre 😎

.Newbie to nostr here. Please explain what you mean by algo. The relay controlling the storage or an automated bot sending out info as a separate nostr id.

by algo I mean algorithm

in nostr you decide how the information you see is sorted

whereas all social networks decide how the information is presented to you to maximize one thing and one thing only:

capturing your attention

it just so happens that the things that capture human attention the most tend to be negative things, stuff that will make you feel outraged, stuff that will trigger you in some way.

that has been molding our minds for the past 15+ years.

We are breaking away from that model.

Agree; imo, they are eventually necessary for maintaining relevance (however particular user chooses to define it).

How do you login on primal?

Sign me up

We def need to prefer, expect, and yes, even *demand* clearly stated and/or readily configurable algorithms from the clients we use...😆

None of this "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" garbage...🙄🤔🧐😁

It makes social media use more healthy. I find it so much easier to step away when needed.

We do have algorithms and they are important. But they aren’t imposed on users without agency. That’s the important part.

It just means humans have to do the job of the algo or just never discover plebs.

I miss the algo

Matrix is awaiting your return then ha. Algo is evil in my opinion

Maybe people aren’t as kind on other platforms because of the mind altering enraging content that is thrown at them daily by the algos?
